How the final grade calculator works
This final exam calculator answers one question: what score do you need on the final exam? It uses your current grade, your target grade, and the exam weight as a percent of the course. The rest of the course is treated as already earned. The same formula works for a midterm if that exam has a course weight. It does not calculate GPA and it does not average your tests.
How to use the calculator
- Enter your current grade.
- Enter the course grade you want.
- Enter the final exam weight, for example 30 if the final is 30% of the course.
- Calculate. The number you get is the required exam score, not a GPA.
Worked example
Suppose your current grade is 78, you want an 80, and the final is worth 30%. The live calculator result is 84.7%. That is the score required on the final exam to finish with an 80% course grade when 30% of the course is still ahead.
Understanding your result
If the required score is at or below 100%, the target is still possible under the weights you entered. If it is above 100%, that target is not possible with that current grade and exam weight. After you know the course grade, use the GPA calculator. To average scores you already have, use the grade average calculator. If you still have material to cover, plan hours with the study calculator.
