Study time calculator
How many hours should I study?
Plan college study time with this study calculator. See how many hours you should study before a test. Optional breaks are for a Pomodoro-style plan. This page is not for reading time, GPA, weekly hours per credit, or tuition.
Plan your study time
Use 5 to 10 for a Pomodoro-style break. Leave 0 for study time only.
How the study calculator works
This study calculator is a college study time and study plan tool. It turns pages or problems left into hours a day until a test. Add optional break minutes if you want a study-and-break schedule. It is not a reading-time tool, not hours per credit, and not a GPA calculator.
How to use the calculator
- Enter pages or problems left.
- Set how many you can finish in an hour.
- Enter the days you have until the test.
- Optional: add break minutes per study hour.
- Calculate. The result is hours a day, not a reading speed.
Worked example
If you have 40 pages left, you can finish 10 pages an hour, and the test is in 4 days, the tool splits 4 hours of work into 1 hour a day.
Understanding your result
The hours-a-day result is a simple exam study schedule, not a visual timetable and not an app. Use the reading time calculator when you only want minutes to finish a text. For weekly hours per credit, use the study load calculator. For an SAT section score, use the SAT score calculator after you plan hours here.
