Letter grade calculator and grading scale
What letter grade is my percent?
Convert a percent to a letter on a common grading scale, or convert a letter back to a typical percent range and 4.0 points.
Percent, letter, and GPA points
Enter a percent or a letter. You do not need both.
How the letter grade calculator works
This grading scale uses a common US plus/minus chart. A percent maps to a letter and 4.0 points. A letter maps back to a typical percent range. A 3.5 GPA is typically a B+; a 3.0 is a B. Your syllabus can use different cutoffs.
How to use the calculator
- Enter a percent from 0 to 100, or
- Enter a letter such as B+.
- You do not need both fields.
- Calculate to see letter, range, and GPA points.
Worked example
A score of 91% maps to A- on this scale, which is 3.7 points. A letter of B+ maps to 87–89% and 3.3 points.
Understanding your result
Treat this as a typical conversion, not your official transcript. For course GPA from several classes use the GPA calculator. For syllabus weights use the weighted grade calculator.
